Abstract
Background: Menopause causes physical and psychological changes, with weight gain increasing the risk of symptoms and metabolic issues, especially for obese women who often prioritize family over their health.
Aim: To explore the effectiveness of High Energy Focused Electromagnetic) HIEMF (field versus Electrical muscle stimulation) EMS) on premenopausal abdominal muscle lifting.
Subjects and methods: An experimental randomized controlled trial was conducted from April 10, 2023, to October 15, 2024, involving forty-six premenopausal women with abdominal muscle weakness, who were selected from the outpatient clinic of Misr International Hospital.
Results: There was no statistically significant change in the mean values of weight before treatment across both groups (p=0.920), but a significant change was observed after treatment in favor of group A (p=0.048). The same result was found for BMI (p=0.391 before treatment, p=0.001 after treatment in favor of group A), W/H ratio (p=0.057 before treatment, p=0.001 after treatment in favor of group A), BMR (p=0.862 before treatment, p=0.001 after treatment in favor of group A), VF (p=0.245 before treatment, p=0.001 after treatment in favor of group A), and TBF (p=0.210 before treatment, p=0.004 after treatment in favor of group A). For abdominal muscle strength, there was no significant change before (p=0.511) or after treatment (p=0.776)
Conclusion: The study found that HIEMF and EMS effectively lifted abdominal muscles in premenopausal women, with HIEMF being more effective in treating abdominal muscle weakness and obesity.
